Terms and Conditions

Welcome to TutorMate! These Terms and Conditions govern your use of our website, www.tutormate.co.uk, and the services we provide. By registering as a tutor, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must refrain from using our platform.

1. Registration and Verification

1.1. To become a tutor on TutorMate, you must complete the registration process, providing accurate and complete information, including:

  • Personal details
  • Educational qualifications
  • A valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate
  • Proof of identity (e.g., passport, driving license)

1.2. All submitted information will undergo a verification process. Only upon successful verification will you gain access to the TutorMate dashboard to list your courses.

1.3. TutorMate reserves the right to reject any application that does not meet our verification criteria or appears fraudulent.

2. Lesson Arrangements

2.1. Lessons will be conducted using integrated video calls, allowing tutors and students to communicate via microphone, screen-sharing, chat, and webcam. In case of technical issues, alternative arrangements should be mutually agreed upon.

2.2. Lesson bookings must be requested in writing (via email or the TutorMate dashboard) at least 24 hours in advance.

2.3. Tutors must adhere to scheduled lesson times and notify students promptly in case of unavoidable delays or cancellations.

3. Fees and Payments

3.1. Tutors are responsible for setting their own hourly rates. TutorMate may provide guidance on pricing but does not dictate fees.

3.2. Payments for lessons will be processed through the platform, and tutors will receive payouts to their registered bank accounts. Payments must be received at least 24 hours before the scheduled session.

3.3. Tutors agree to comply with TutorMate’s payment policies, including any transaction fees or commission charges deducted by the platform.

4. Cancellations and Refunds

4.1. Student Cancellations: If a student cancels a lesson with less than 24 hours’ notice, the tutor is entitled to retain the full lesson fee.

4.2. Tutor Cancellations: If a tutor cancels a lesson, they must provide at least 24 hours’ notice and offer a rescheduled session at the student’s convenience. Frequent cancellations may result in suspension from the platform.

4.3. No-Show Policy: If a tutor fails to attend a scheduled lesson without prior notice, the student will receive a full refund, and TutorMate may review the tutor’s account status.

5. Code of Conduct

5.1. Tutors must conduct themselves professionally at all times, maintaining respectful and appropriate communication with students.

5.2. Tutors must not engage in any form of discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour.

5.3. Any attempt to bypass TutorMate’s payment system by requesting direct payments from students will result in immediate removal from the platform.

5.4. Tutors must deliver lessons with integrity, ensuring that the learning experience is engaging and beneficial for students.

6. Compliance with UK Laws and Regulations

6.1. Tutors are responsible for complying with all applicable UK laws, including tax obligations related to their earnings.

6.2. Tutors must ensure their DBS certificate remains valid and update TutorMate if any changes occur regarding their eligibility to work with students.

6.3. Any violation of UK child protection laws or safeguarding regulations will result in immediate termination and potential legal action.

7. Termination of Services

7.1. TutorMate reserves the right to suspend or terminate a tutor’s account if they fail to comply with these Terms.

7.2. Tutors may deactivate their accounts at any time, but any scheduled lessons must be honoured before leaving the platform.

7.3. TutorMate may amend these Terms from time to time. Tutors will be notified of any significant changes.
